What we can do for you

Our Business and Regeneration team provide information on the following key areas:

Commercial development and inward investment

Wherever possible we support and facilitate local business expansions and re-investments, working closely with Locate in Kent. We provide a free property register of locally available commercial property and sites.

We can also offer general advice on some of the economic development issues that you may need to consider in your planning application. 

Maintaining and generating economic data

We retain and undertake detailed intelligence on the economic characteristics and future economic potential of the district. 

Business advice and support

We direct both local businesses and potential start-up businesses to the appropriate information, business agencies or organisations that you need including for training and skills. We facilitate new commercial opportunities between local companies via our online business directory, and hosting of regular business events.

Town centre management

The Business and Regeneration team acts as a link between traders, businesses and partners to create an attractive, vibrant, safe and interesting town centre with an increased range of shops, leisure and entertainment facilities and to encourage a thriving evening economy. 

Regeneration

We work closely with the district's regeneration managers in taking forward regeneration and renewal projects in key areas of the district.

A voice and advocate for business

Through our role in supporting, facilitating and administrating the district's local economic partnership Canterbury4Business and economic strategy, we seek to ensure that the current and future needs of local businesses and economy are emphasised and represented at all levels of government.

Supporting knowledge-based businesses

The council is a key player in a local strategy to develop more knowledge-based industries in the district.  It supports the Kent Enterprise Hub (based at The University of Kent), which works with highly innovative and high growth potential start-ups to increase their survival rates. 

Visitor economy

The Visitor Economy is important to Canterbury district. Supporting over 8,526 jobs and nearly 6.1 million visitors, tourism contributes more than £432m to the local economy annually.  The Business and Regeneration team supports the strategic development of the visitor economy and offers partnership and promotional schemes such as Visit Canterbury.

Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce

The Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce is a membership organisation which provides a full range of business support services, ranging from networking and business support to representation.
