Skin piercing registration
Do I need a licence?
Anyone who wishes to carry out the following skin piercing activities must be registered with their local council (unless they are a registered medical doctor or are working under the direct supervision of such a person).
- Tattooing and semi-permanent skin-colouring
- Cosmetic skin piercing
Why do I need to be registered?
The purpose of registration is to ensure that essential health and hygiene standards are maintained in any premises where these activities are carried out.
How much will I pay?
Acupuncture, tattooing, electrolysis and cosmetic piercing and semi-permanent colouring
One fee is payable for each premises. So if you carry out a number of treatments (e.g. tattooing and skin piercing), the fee applied will be the highest of fees shown.
