Planning a commercial outdoor event
We manage public open spaces across the Canterbury district for the use of commercial events.

What will I need to provide?
As part of this process you will need to include detailed information about your event, a completed site plan showing your proposed layout, and a detailed risk assessment of your activities.
If you require a road closure as part of your event you are likely to need to submit a Traffic Management Plan and Event Safety Management Plan as well.
How much notice do I need to give?
Our timescales depend on the size of your event;
- Small Scale Event (200-500 people attending at any one time) We require one month's notice
- Medium Scale Event (500-2000 people attending at any one time) We require three months' notice
- Large Scale Event (2000-5000 people attending at any one time) We require six months' notice
Where does my application go?
The Events Office manage all applications for commercial events. Your application will be assessed and issued to a multi-agency events group, made up of key representatives including Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue. The group decide as a whole to approve your event, but we work to make events happen, so will let you know if there is any additional information you need to provide. The group meet monthly, so it is important you give us as much notification of an event as possible, to allow for changes and amendments ahead of your approval.
