Coastal byelaws

Our coastal byelaws must be followed when using public waters and facilities.

To make our coastal waters a safe and usable amenity for all residents and visitors, we have reviewed our ‘Public Bathing’ and ‘Seaside Pleasure Boats’ byelaws.

We have introduced the following:

  • An eight-knot speed limit inside transit lanes where no limit previously applied.
  • A direction of travel in the lanes using red and green buoys.
  • A ban on pleasure craft entering the Herne Bay and Tankerton lifeguard-patrolled swimming areas at all times.

To help all water users remain safe when using our coastal launch facilities, please adhere to the byelaws, navigational launch site signs and the advice of our ramp attendants and patrol staff.
