If you have a Blue Badge and don’t have off-street parking for your car, you can apply for a disabled parking bay.
Who can apply
To get a disabled parking bay, you must meet the following criteria:
- you must hold a valid Blue Badge
- you must own the vehicle
- you must hold a valid UK driving licence
- you must be the main driver of the vehicle
- you must not have any off road parking space at or near your property
- if you are under 65, you must be getting the higher rate disability living allowance – mobility component or the enhanced rate of the mobility component for personal independence payment (PIP)
- if you are over 65, you must be getting the higher rate disability living allowance – mobility component, attendance allowance or other mobility allowance
- you must regularly have trouble finding a parking space near your home - we'll check this before we approve a bay
- there must be no existing parking restrictions in place such as yellow lines
- the bay isn't needed somewhere it might cause safety issues; for example at a junction, on a bend, or on a turning
- the road must be owned and maintained by Kent County Council
A disabled parking bay can be used by anyone with a disabled Blue Badge. If we approve a bay, it won’t just belong to you.

What happens after you apply
Once we've had your application we will look at your street to make sure the location is suitable for a disabled bay. Before a decision is made, we will consult with neighbours in properties near to the proposed location.
We should process your application within six to eight weeks.
