Service description

Canterbury City Council will use information held against housing benefit records to identify households who may be entitled to one of the following benefits:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Bereavement Support Payment
  • Carer's Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Jobseekers Allowance
  • Retirement pension
  • State Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit and Savings Credit)

Processing activity

We will use the information we already hold about you to establish if you might be entitled to one of the above listed benefits, and if we believe you might be entitled we will write to you. Unfortunately, the law prevents us from emailing you.

You do not have to provide any additional information.

Lawful bases

Our lawful bases for processing your personal information are:

  • Public task

This is based on DPA2018 s8(c), which supplements UK GDPR A6(1)(e), in relation to the powers provided by the Social Security Administration Act 1992 (section 7B) and The Social Security (Claims and Information) Regulations 2007.

Your rights depend on the lawful basis we're relying on. 

Data processors

Your housing benefit is processed by Civica UK Ltd. 

Assessment of entitlement to other benefits will be provided by Policy in Practice Ltd. We also use Microsoft UK Ltd.

Data sharing

Not applicable.

Retention

We keep your personal information for the minimum period necessary.

The information outlined in this privacy notice will be kept in accordance with our Retention Policy. All information will be held securely and disposed of confidentially.
