Corporate Plan key priorities

See our key Corporate Plan priorities for the next four years.

The Corporate Plan doesn’t set out everything that we do, but it identifies the main challenges and ambitions we want to tackle.

We have a duty to run our statutory activities and services, and to make sure where there are proposed changes to service levels, budgets or charges, we consult on them before a decision is made.

We will develop an action plan and performance framework to support the plan and the budgets involved.

Corporate Plan key priorities

Greener

We will be a greener district. Climate change and biodiversity emergencies are at the heart of this.

We will:

  • introduce recycling in public spaces,
  • retrofit council housing to be more energy efficient,
  • support citizen science for air, rivers, sea and soil,
  • improve use of Park and Ride,
  • increase protected green space, and
  • improve planning enforcement on environmental agreements.

Fairer

We will be a fairer district. We can play a big role in supporting services and people most in need.

We will:

  • introduce support for local businesses,
  • create a cost of living programme,
  • take an early intervention approach to our housing services,
  • reduce our use of temporary accommodation outside our district,
  • support free access to sport and low cost activities,
  • improve awareness of feminist town planning - which puts women at the heart of decision making, and
  • support voluntary organisations that do open access youth work.

Better

We will be a better district. More council housing, more apprenticeships, and more support for local organisations that run frontline services for our residents when we cannot.

We will:

  • increase the amount of council houses we have,
  • put local people first for housing,
  • grow the financial resilience of our Local Authority Trading Companies,
  • support a circular economy - where everything is reused and nothing goes to waste,
  • encourage apprenticeships,
  • better use our assets to support the voluntary sector, and
  • use council property to support the voluntary sector.

Stronger

We will be a stronger district. Our council will be inclusive, and give the best value services to all our residents.

We will:

  • improve access to council services for people that cannot get online,
  • grow civic engagement in local politics,
  • make sure we have effective and efficient governance,
  • improve public participation in cultural activities, and
  • improve safety in and around schools.
